Before Beginning

Things To Know Before You Begin

Most likely the file you download will come as a .rar or .zip.  This type of file is where everything has been compressed together and made into one .rar or .zip file.  When unpacked or uncompressed it may well actually be several files.  Usually this will be your video file and with it something about the guy who originally obtained it, worked on it and uploaded it.  It may also contain information about the site from which you downloaded it.

For want of a better term, the add on files (apart from the video file itself) are rubbish and can go directly into your "Recycle Bin".

When your file has been downloaded, you right click on the .rar file (a purple stack of books) and select “Extract Here” (see left) or to where ever you want the uncompressed files to go.

You will then have your fully operational .mkv file (as well as some 'other' superfluous files).

Therefore you MUST have a program such as WinRAR or RarZilla (Free) installed on your computer to extract the .rar or .zip files.  7Zip is another alternative.

A program such as Internet Download Manager (IDM) allows you to easily organize your downloading.  Ensure you have enabled Integration into your browser program on the first screen of your IDM Options. This usually happens automatically with Firefox when installing Internet Download Manager.

Note that you do not have to have Internet Download Manager installed to download.  If you want you can download using your web browser's inbuilt downloader.  Ensure you know where the default target is for your downloads, most likely it will be somewhere in your IE or Firefox settings.

In IDM you will also need to nominate where your download files to go after they have been downloaded.  This is done via “Options” and the “Save To” tab. Create a “Download Folder” and set IDM to download all files to the folder.  I 'always' set IDM to save to the Desktop.

A more comprehensive list of suggestions for Internet Download Manager settings can be found under the "Other" tab.

A link for you to download Internet Download Manager and Winrar will be found under the "Software" tab.
